EMG JH Hetfield Het Set Vs. EMG 81

WATCH IN 1080pHD! I just put the JH set into my ESP SV, to close the gap to the J50BC equipped RR1 a little, and it worked. they sound a bit more passive with a bit more bottom end than the 81, they're still really tight though. The output is quite a bit hotter than the 81s output! you sacrifice a little of the "polished" sounding qualities of the 81..only an 81 sounds like an 81, the JH does sound a bit different, but it certainly offers a more "passive" feel...liking it so far. I'd say the 81 has a bit more of the higher "sticky" mids, while the JH has a bit more of the lower "growly" mids... it's not night and day of course, but if you jump between the same sections in this song you'll hear it. EMG Pickups! I've used them in some of my guitars for years, and today I'm comparing the Het Set Combo to the EMG HZ set. Youtube audio always compresses things, but in the room I could definitely hear a difference. I like them both! Guitars today are my new Epiphone Camo Zakk Wylde Guitar, and my ESP LTD EC1000T CTM M that I've had for a few years! JH Set consists of the JH-N (neck) and the JH-B (bridge). Both were patterned after the pickups James had used for 30 years, but the end result was a completely different animal. The JH-N has individual ceramic poles and bobbins that feature a larger core and are taller than the 60. This produces more attack, higher output, and fuller low end in the neck position. Here's a quick comparison for all you active pickup junkies. I recorded these when I installed the HetSet and boi was I impressed. In this bridge position only clips, the "Het" Set demonstrates so much more output and girth is even visible in that DI signals screenshot I overlaid. The result is a much thicker and punchier sound with a ton of more sustain. Those who think the 'EMG' sound is sterile might wanna check the HetSet out since it definitely sounds and feels less flat/shallow. EMG 40CS And EMG 40DC Comparison Video In Spector NS5XL

Ok so here is a video of my NS5XL loaded with an EMG40CS in the bridge, and an EMG DC40 in the neck. Was on about 75% bridge 25% neck for Smooth Criminal, with a slight bass and treble boost on the Haz. For Chelsea Dagger is was around 70% neck pickup and 30% bridge with the same slight treble and bass boost. The signal then ran into my Sansamp Fly Rig which had a SMIDGE of compression, then into the sansamp section which ran flat level, flat high, mids @ 2 o’clock, bass flat, character @ 1 o’clock, and drive at 12.30 o’clock. The boost knob was set PRE sansamp to get the overdrive for Chelsea Dagger (was disengaged for Smooth Criminal).
